Make excellent prints on your RGB printer

The secret to achieving outstanding prints, and avoiding wasted time and money on failed test prints, is to maintain color control throughout the entire workflow.

If you print yourself and want to reach a truly high level, you need updated custom ICC profiles for your monitor and for each printer/ink/paper combination. Your monitor should be hardware-calibrated 1–4 times per month so you can view images correctly and edit with precision.

Manufacturer-supplied ICC profiles are a good starting point, but they are based on an average printer. Your own printer will always deviate from this and will also change over time. Software updates, new ink and paper sets, and hardware variations all affect the final result. This is why I recommend that serious printmakers regularly profile their printer/ink/paper combinations—at least every six months.

I use the latest generation scanner and specialized software to detect measurement errors, analyze profiles both mathematically and visually in graphs, and fine-tune them for optimal precision. In addition, I have developed three optimized patch combinations that match different levels of ambition; from solid control, to professional premium, to competition-print quality. This way, you can choose the level of precision that best suits your needs.

How it is done

1. Contact me to order profiles and receive personalized support.

2. I will send you test images and instructions on how to print them—at 100% size and with no color correction applied.

3. You make sure that your printer and monitor are working correctly and set up with the right settings before printing.

4. You print the test profiles and send the prints to me in a secure way.

5. I perform advanced scanning and analysis using the latest high-end equipment and specialized software. An optimized number and combination of color patches are used, depending on your level of ambition.

6. I then deliver your custom ICC profiles via email, together with clear installation instructions.
